Chalethia Williams, Theatre Instructor at Miles College, is an Actress; Director; Writer; Workshop Instructor; Arts Educator; all things “Artsey”; and a Notary. Her passion for the arts blossomed at a very young age and now her life long goal is to expose as many as she can on the creative and social benefits of the arts. Chalethia has a Masters of Fine Arts degree from Western Illinois University in Macomb, IL and a Bachelor of Arts degree from St. Edward’s University in Austin, TX.

After completion of an Apprenticeship at the Alley Theatre in Houston, TX, Williams returned to Birmingham, AL. After a call from a very good friend, she performed in the first production (1986) at the Terrific New Theatre, where she’s been a Board Member since 2006.

Williams has performed and worked on many local stages in Birmingham since returning home in 1986. In addition, Chalethia performed with the Alabama Shakespeare Festival in Montgomery, where she became a member of the Actors’ Equity Association. Her most recent role was Sadie Delany, a character from Having Our Say …The Delany Sisters’ First 100 Years; Other roles include Barbara Davis in The Green Book with Red Mountain Theatre Company; director of A Piece of My Heart at Alabama School of Fine Arts; and other cast roles include, Mary in Savannah Disputation at Birmingham Festival Theatre, a personal favorite - Mama Nadi in Ruined, produced by Aldridge Repertory Theatre and City Equity Theatre.

Chalethia was featured on various local radio stations as a cast member for McDonald’s commercials. Other past accomplishments include participation in the Lincoln Center Institute for Aesthetic Education in New York, sponsored by University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). From 1997 - 2007, Williams served as Director/Administrator for the Academy of Fine Arts Summer Drama Camp. In addition, she worked as an Outreach Storyteller at North Birmingham Library. Teaching credits include professorships at UAB, the University of Montevallo, Lawson State Community College, and Spelman College for Women in Atlanta, Georgia. Chalethia rejoined the faculty of Miles College in 2009, after previously teaching there from 1992-2006 in the Humanities Division.

Chalethia Williams is a founding member of Onyx Agency, Inc. Her television credits include: The Rosa Parks Story with Angela Bassett and Cecily Tyson and The Conviction of Kitty Dodds with Veronica Hamel and Kevin Dobson. Chalethia was divinely inspired in 2000 to create Milk ‘n Cookies, Inc., a cultural arts and educational center, born to expose children and their parents to the arts in North Birmingham, Alabama and currently has a national and international reach. Chalethia states, “I am always thankful for the opportunity to share my talents with each and every person and am forever grateful to my deceased parents for their love and support of my personal interest and my PASSION, the ARTS.”
